11 Months and Growing! (Home Videos)
Well, it's been awhile since we've posted anything new on this blog - busy days I guess! It's July, so Jaxon is now 11 months old. He is crawling everywhere (a.k.a. the army crawl). He still hasn't quite figured out how to lift his tummy off the floor so he does the 'ole army crawl - it's quite adorable. Recently, Jaxon has learned to pull himself up into kneeling position, and shortly after that he learned how to pull himself up to standing position. It is now a whole new world for him (and us). Besides the fact that he has absolutely no fear whatsoever, we have learned the importance of baby-proofing our home.
To our surprise, a few weeks ago, Jaxon decided to jump out of the crib. Oh yes, I think that was our official initiation into parenthood. Kyle and I were just talking that night about how we should really lower the crib, and then five seconds later we heard it..."thud!" We ran into his room, and low and behold, our son was on the floor rubbing his eyes and crying, and probably a little confused how he got there. Naturally, we freaked out, ran to him and checked him over. No bumps or bruises yet, and no more than five more seconds did Kyle have the tools out and the crib turned upside down. I decided to give my baby a warm bottle - he drank the whole thing and was fast asleep on me soon after. I balled the entire time I was rocking him. We felt aweful, but the next day many of our friends who are also parents said, "Congratulations! It happens to all of us." This made us feel better.
Jaxon seems to have no fear, but I guess that is probably all babies. He will be standing up next to the couch or console table; he'll see two balls and just go for them, releasing his hands to whatever he's hanging onto. Kyle and I are always nearby to catch his fall...and a few times we've gotten there a little too late...but I guess it is all part of him learning what he can and can't do yet.
Right now, we are caught up in planning our first 1 year birthday party - the big one. We're going with an elephant theme because Jaxon has always liked his elephant toys. Plus, elephants are big and Jaxon's big - so it makes sense (haha) and we'll have a big fun time! My mom was happy to hear we chose this theme since elephants are republican (for those of you who don't know my mother, anything along the republican vein is a big deal to her). Hilarious...although I did find some "vote for Sarah Palin" elephant stickers online that we could hand out during the party? Not. :)
Kyle and I have been busy with work and odds and ends around the house. I think we'll take Jaxon to the zoo for the first time this weekend. Here are a couple short home videos we took recently of Jaxon. Enjoy your summer and we hope to see you soon!
