Jaxon's Big Day at the Zoo
On Father's Day this year (June 17, 2012), Kyle and I decided to take Jaxon to the Lincoln Zoo to have some family time together and give Jaxon a fun experience petting goats, riding camels and going on a train ride.
I, personally, had never been to the Lincoln Zoo before. We live in Lincoln, but having grown up in Bellevue (Omaha area), I was privy to the Henry Doorly Zoo. And well, why go elsewhere, when you can go to Henry Doorly? But now, I get it. If you're looking to kill 2 hours versus an entire day where you are not exhausted afterward, the Lincoln Zoo is the place to go. I found it to be much more younger-kid-friendly, whereas Henry Doorly seems to be more geared to tweens and adults. Both have their advantages. But, it was nice to try something new.
Jaxon got such a kick out of the horses and camels. He even went on a camel ride with Kyle, and he loved it. When we entered the butterfly garden, he was much more fascinated with the rocks rather than the beautiful, fluttering insects surrounding us. One butterfly even landed on Kyle's hat. A new friend I guess. The butterfly reminded me of "Thomas" (only my immediate family will understand that statement). I think Jaxon's favorite part was the "choo-choo" - the train. The conductor even let Jaxon sit in the conductor's seat at the end of the train ride so he could sit up front and play with the gears. All in all, it was a great day and I can't wait to do it again.
