Creating Experiences and Building Race Car Tracks
There's something to be said about giving your children experiences. And not just any experience or the right experience, but there's something nostalgic in giving them your experience - or similar experiences that you cherished yourself as a child. One of my fondest memories as a child is playing kickball in the circle we grew up in with my neighbor friends and playing outside until the street light came on. I plan on making that a rule with my kids as well. I think it instilled in us a sense of play, socialness and just plain activity...rather than watching TV all day. I also remember family dinners. We'd eat in the kitchen, TV off. So, we do our best to create those same moments with our kids as well because they were important to us growing up, and on some level, we believe these moments defined us as well.
Kyle used to say that when he was a child he would always play with race tracks and had so much fun doing so. I think he felt compelled to give Jaxon the same experience maybe, but one day he and Jaxon went to Hobby Lobby on a mission to find a box of race car tracks to build. And they did. Kyle picked it up, and when they got home we all assembled it together. Jaxon was so excited about his new race track, playing with it non-stop throughout the day - it was also the very first thing he did when he woke up in the mornings. Every time we'd attach a new track piece to another track piece, he's throw his hands up high in the air and say, "hooray!" and jump around with applause.
Here's a picture of my two favorite boys working hard on building the ultimate race car track. :) I hope you remember this one day, Jaxon, and that you will build race tracks with your son.
