Our First Week Home!
Kyle and I wanted to thank EVERYONE who has helped make our first week at home with Jaxon, and the transition into parenthood, a little easier by your warm visits, delicious food which we have gotten to enjoy over and over the past few days (seriously, we really appreciate the food!), gifts and words of encouragement and neverending support our family and friends have already given us. Thank you, thank you! It means so much.
The first week at home has gone pretty well I'd say...other than the lack of sleep on our end (smile). While probably a little early to try getting a premature newborn into a routine, we're making an attempt at it. Feeding every 3 hours. Finding some time to "play" with Jaxon after he eats so he doesn't sleep too much during the day and keep mommy and daddy up all night. Although, this is a little more difficult than originally thought through. Luckily, he only wakes up a couple times during the night, which I think we can handle...for now. But wow - I have to say - this parenthood thing is pretty exhausting. If I remember correctly, we were told by some of you, "Nah, if you can raise a puppy, a baby is a synch!" I now see that we must've had that conversation over drinks and what you really meant was the opposite. It's okay, you're forgiven. A good 9 hours of sleep was always the medicine I needed to have an alert day the next day. Goodbye 9 hours. Hello 3!
Anyway, Jaxon is doing really well. He's a happy baby who loves to eat, poop a lot, sleep and be cuddled, give gas-smiles and look around for nipple-sized objects. He loves visitors and has had a ton of fun spending time with Grandma Barr (Beth's mom) the past couple of days while dad has gone back to work. He also loves baths we found out - the part where we wash his head only. It reminds me of a baptismal ceremony everytime we do it, but he doesn't seem to mind at all.
I'm looking forward to some better-weathered days so we can go on walks during the day around Holmes Lake. Which reminds me...I think there's something off about our car seat - whenever we put him in it, whether it's in the stroller or the car, he seems too upright and his head starts to flop all around, which I don't think is a good thing, so I have to monitor it all the time. That doesn't seem right??? Any suggestions? Maybe I need to take it down to the Lancaster Health Department and have them check it out. Makes me nervous.
Below are some updated pictures of Jaxon from today. Thanks for being patient with this blog as I may not be able to update it as often as I'd like. :)
Thanks!

Beth, your local police station or county sheriff should be able to provide you with a car seat installation check. A lot of times its difficult to get the seat level like the manufacturer requires... I've had to use a pool noodle cut down to boost the foot end of the carseat to effectively tip back the seat to the correct position with one of our seats.
ReplyDeleteSleep deprivation is part of your parental initiation, lol. Sorry you weren't better warned! I found that by kid #3 you've got most things figured out, and it only gets easier... so just keep having them!
Jaxon is adorable... enjoy this stage - it really does fly by.
