Today Was A Great Day!
Today was are really good day for Jaxon! Jaxon's jaundice went down today to a score the NICU staff was satisfied with, so the Billyrubin lights were taken off him today and we've been able to hold him more than just at feeding time, which was fantastic news! He sported some pretty snazzy sun glasses through the process however, which I'm sure he'll be missing. Jaxon has been feeding extremely well and is also another reason why his jaundice has decreased - mom and dad are very proud of him! We got the opportunity to give Jaxon a bath today and learned all about how to do that. He loved it! At first he wasn't so sure, but then fell asleep with a smile on his face when we got around to massaging his head. The doctors are going to perform another assessment on him tomorrow morning at which point we will know more about when he will be discharged from the NICU and the hospital. So far, we have high hopes it will be tomorrow (Friday) as he has been eating well, gaining weight bit by bit and his jaundice has decreased. If his jaundice increases again through the night for whatever reason, or if he has any more sleep apnea spells (he started off with 6 sleep apneas per day and now he is at 1 per day, but we want him to be at zero) then he may stay until Saturday or until both are completely gone. Whatever gets him healthier is all we care about. We have gotten to know so many wonderful staff members at Bryan and have truly had an amazing experience here. We have many thank you notes to write to the doctors, nurses and specialists involved in the first 5 days of Jaxon Bruss' life! It has been such a joy to already see him change and watch the funny little faces he makes throughout the day at us and the things around him. We love him so much and can't wait for everyone to meet him!
Below is a picture of Jaxon in a newborn-sized sleeper which was a gift from Grandma Barr, Beth's mom. Obviously it was a wee big as he was swimming in it - premie sizes it is! Also below is a photo of Jaxon with his shades on, which he wore when he was under the jaundice lights. He looked very "cool."
